Our Story

PERKform Origin Story

I have been fortunate enough to witness and participate in the technological advancements of this fascinating era. While I take great pride in these advancements, I am not oblivious to the challenges they bring.

In the past, I worked for a company whose mission statement deeply resonated with me: “Enriching lives through communications.

Not only do I believe that technology enriches lives, but I have also experienced it firsthand. However, as time went on, I couldn’t help but notice the negative impacts of this technology as well. Families became disconnected from each other, engrossed in their phones even when gathered around the dinner table, and the rise of anxiety and depression caused by the social media frenzy. Getting mad at technology didn’t seem right to me and it became apparent that it was our own lack of tools and skills to handle it effectively and mitigate the negative effects. When I observed myself and my colleagues struggling with the stressful work environment, I questioned why the very individuals contributing to the mission to enrich lives felt depleted.

During a time when the company underwent massive layoffs, I had recently started practicing mindfulness. I vividly remember coming out of a stressful meeting where we were warned about possible future layoffs. Surprisingly, I experienced a sense of calm and equanimity rising from within.

Instead of engaging with the negative thoughts that permeated the atmosphere, I focused on my day and found myself enjoying a task that was on my to-do list.

I questioned why the very individuals contributing to the mission to enrich lives felt depleted.

In that moment, I realized how cultivating the right mindset and practicing mindfulness can help us find joy even when external factors are not conducive to positivity. This realization benefited not only my personal well-being but also my organization, as stress no longer hindered my performance.

However, the problem lies in the fact that while we focus on learning skills like maths and science to succeed in the workplace, we often overlook the importance of cultivating joy, Skills alone cannot transform us into happy and fulfilled individuals unless we invest in nurturing our own happiness & cultivating joy.

Skills alone cannot transform us into happy and fulfilled individuals unless we invest in nurturing our own happiness & cultivating joy.

Inspired by this realization, I took it upon myself to learn and teach the art of happiness and fulfillment.

After studying the subject, engaging in a lot of introspection, and participating in various practices ranging from meditation to practicing Kung Fu, I realized that I had misunderstood the equation all along. It is not performance at work that brings long-term happiness, but rather a sense of joy and fulfillment that fuels both performance and growth for both organizations and employees. Studies have shown that happy employees perform better, making significant contributions to a company’s success.

As I studied for a professional certificate in “The Science of Happiness at Work” taught by Professor Dacher Keltner, Ph.D. and Emiliana Simon-Thomas  Ph.D. I was introduced to the PERK framework and as I realized that integrating the PERK model results in performance improvement at work, PERKform was born as an idea and eventually evolved into this institution that advocates making happiness a strategic approach for organizational and societal success. The pillars of Happiness—Purpose, Engagement, Resilience, and Kindness— are the foundations for performance and growth.

  • With Purpose comes unwavering dedication.
  • With Engagement comes heightened productivity.
  • With Resilience, growth becomes inevitable.
  • And Kindness forms the basis of a culture in which individuals and teams thrive.
